The 2006 World Cup winner hung up his boots this summer and is now working as a director with his last club, Dubai outfit Al-Ahli.
“In all honesty, it’s not so bad being retired,” he told the Corriere dello Sport. “I don’t really miss playing football, perhaps because in one way or another I am still in this sporting world.
“After 20 years at the top level and over 800 games, the time had come to put a full stop to my career. There are no regrets, but rather pride and satisfaction.”
