Juventus GM Beppe Marotta has hit out at doubts over Gigi Buffon's international injury.

Marotta rapped critics who thought Buffon was faking his injury on international duty in order to be fit for their win over Napoli.

"The truth shows that the criticism on Buffon was incorrect. Wearing the Azzurri jersey must be a source of pride for everyone and so it happens to risk playing even when not at full fitness," Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

"Andrea Pirlo is in good shape and knows how to control his energy levels. He is one of those who moves the most on the pitch, even if he uses his brain more than his legs, so perhaps that helps him become less fatigued."
