Juventus GM Beppe Marotta will seek a new defensive signing in January. Marotta admitted last night a deal for Rubin Kazan stopper Salvatore Bocchetti was blocked by the Russian club's new president.
Zenit St Petersburg's Bruno Alves is now Juve's prime target, having been put on standby this week as they were convinced a deal for Bocchetti would happen.
"We did not sign anyone because no one was up to Juve standard," claimed Marotta.
However, Juve now go into the new season without the experienced centre-half coach Antonio Conte had demanded to partner Giorgio Chiellini.
