Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro had sympathy for AC Milan's Kakha Kaladze after he scored two own goals in Italy's 2-0 victory over Georgia.
"It's a shame for Kaladze, as to see a game decided by two own goals is always ugly for a player," he said.
Before this result, the Azzurri had failed to score in three consecutive games.
"Aside from the first half where the team struggled to create chances, we were far more attacking and creative after the break. The goals arrived as a consequence of all that.
"It is a tough time for everyone, as there was an incident where both [Fabio] Quagliarella and [Vincenzo] Iaquinta hit the woodwork in quick succession.
"The team is pushing and the important thing is that we rediscover our spirit on the field."
