Juventus signing Fabio Cannavaro has hit back at claims he's too old for Italy after their Confederations Cup exit.
"Enough with this story about the old guard, it is now a fashion. If I really bother you my place is at your disposition, but Lippi decides," Cannavaro said.
"I am not only here because I lifted the World Cup. Everyone has in mind the seven games I played in Germany in 2006 and compared with them I always play bad.
"But like Lippi I believe that the players who are here are the best our football can offer at the moment. There are no more Tottis, Baggios and Del Pieros.
"We need to rebuild and not just La Nazionale. Let's start with the infrastructure, the stadiums and the academies.
"Today it's enough for a defender to be a tall good-looking blond, who dribbles, to think he can play."
