Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri has jumped to the defence of midfielder Tiago after disappointing preseason form.

He said: "Tiago a problem? Let's not joke! You see how you change your opinion. He has played in Portugal, England and France and he isn't used to our preparations, but he's working hard and soon you will see the real Tiago.

"There is still work to be done to improve the defence because it is a whole new unit," Ranieri admitted. "But I am happy with Domenico Criscito and Jorge Andrade who has nous, class and experience.

"This side still has the spirit and soul of the old Juve and we have shown it in all the friendlies we have played."
