Juninho backing Middlesbrough for FA Cup glory

Middlesbrough legend Juninho would love see Gareth Southgate's players win the FA Cup this season - with Afonso Alves scoring along the way.

In an extraordinary 1996-97 season, Bryan Robson's Boro were not only relegated after having three points deducted by the FA but also lost TWO cup finals.

When their fate was sealed at Elland Road, Juninho blubbed on the pitch.

He said: "I will never forget that season. So many people still talk to me about it.

"It will be interesting to see how Alves does. He is a surprise package. He has played in Europe for most of his career so he is pretty unknown back home. But he is a big goalscorer.

"The FA Cup will always have special memories for me. The Chelsea final in 1997 didn't go to plan but the atmosphere and the whole occasion will be something that I will never forget.

"If they manage to do it this time around, I may even shed a little tear."
