Julen Lopetegui delighted being named new Spain coach

Julen Lopetegui has been named new Spain coach.

The former Porto coach was introduced as Vicente del Bosque's replacement on Thursday, and he opened his press conference by praising the former Real Madrid man.

"We will try to take advantage of all the good that he has done for Spanish football for many years and be sure not waste the many wonderful things that this team has done," he said.

"Football does not stop, it does not live in the past - we are very proud of the past, but we look at the present and to the future."

He did not win any silverware in two seasons in Portugal, but said that his time there prepared him to take control of the national team.

"I think the experience in Porto taught me a lot - the Lopetegui that went to Portugal is different than the one that returned," he explained.

"I am two years older and have more experience, so I hope that can help me to make better decisions."
