Southampton captain Jose Fonte has split from his agent.

The People says Fonte has sparked fears that he could be set to land Southampton with big new contract demands after splitting from his long-time agent Artur Teixeira.

The 31-year-old centre-half is understood to have severed his links with his Portuguese compatriot as he bids to win a new deal.

Fonte only signed an improved agreement with Saints 12 months ago – one that should see him stay at St Mary's until 2017.

Jorge Mendes is now being linked with Fonte.
