Jonny Howson to reject Bolton for new Leeds deal

Leeds United midfielder Jonny Howson is set to reject an offer from Bolton Wanderers to stay at Elland Road.

Howson will sign a new contract with Leeds after turning his back on a move to Premier League strugglers Bolton.

The Elland Road skipper had been pencilled in by Reebok boss Owen Coyle as a top target in the January transfer window.

Howson, 23, whose current agreement runs out at the end of this season, said: "We have been in talks for the past month or so and I am sure they will be finalised and I'll sign soon.

"For any professional footballer it is an ambition to play at the highest level, and I am no different. I would love to do that with Leeds and, hopefully, that is where we will be next season.

"I think we have got a very good chance of going up. It is all about consistency.

"If we can get that right, we shall have an excellent opportunity of staying in and around the top of the table."
