Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes his former club mate Phil Jones is not smart enough to play at centre-back and should stick with playing on the flanks.
Scholes criticised Jones during England's 0-0 friendly draw with the Republic of Ireland at the Aviv Stadium in Dublin on Sunday.
Scholes said on ITV: "I just think at centre-back, when he is playing against clever forwards, he tends to get dragged out of position quite easily.
"At right-back you still need to be clever positionally, but I think he can use his pace and power, and he hasn't got a bad delivery either."
The defender managed to make 22 Premier League appearances last season and has previously played as a right-back and midfielder during his time at Old Trafford.
