Brad Jones was delighted to keep a cleansheet in Liverpool's 0-0 draw with Europa League opponents Utrecht.
It was an occasion to savour for the former Middlesbrough 'keeper who was just happy to banish the memory of his first outing in red during September's Carling Cup exit against Northampton.
"It was great to play," he told liverpoolfc.tv.
"It's always difficult when you haven't played for a while to come into the side and maybe that showed a couple of times.
"There were a few things that if I'd had a run of games I would have been a bit smoother with but I'm happy with the clean sheet and happy just to get an opportunity to play."
He added: "I knew from the off here that Pepe is a brilliant keeper.
"I've watched him play for years and I knew what I was getting myself into.
"It was nice for Pepe to let me get in there and play tonight. I doubt he will let me have many more chances this season!
"I really enjoyed it and I've just got to keep working hard at my game."
