Jones backs Man Utd to go on Premier League run

Phil Jones believes Manchester United can put their Champions League ambitions to one side for now and focus on the Premier League.

The reigning English champions beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 in the final group stage fixture on Tuesday night to secure top spot in Group A which will see them wait until February to resume European duties.

After to falling to ninth on the league table following two losses in a row, tonight's goalscorer Jones feels the Red Devils can now throw all of the energy into bridging the gap with league leaders Arsenal who are currently 13 points ahead.

"We know we've had a disappointing couple of weeks but probably we can start going on a run now," Jones said on ITV1.

"Hopefully we can kick on from tonight. I know we've said that in the past but it's really time we did start kicking on."

Of the Shakhtar win, Jones added: "I think we had to show a bit more desire, a bit more belief in the performance, and I thought we did that eventually. We got to grips with it in the second half and created a lot more chances."
