Jonas Gutierrez is convinced Newcastle have turned the corner after their 0-0 draw at Chelsea.
The Argentina winger told the Evening Chronicle: "This point is very important.
"Chelsea are a very difficult team to play, but I felt we did very well. It's very difficult to take something from them at their stadium, so we were very pleased with the result."
Gutierrez, and his South American colleague Fabricio Coloccini, both put in sterling displays against the Blues.
And after helping to shut out the title hopefuls, Gutierrez paid tribute to the back four after they dented Chelsea's championship hopes.
The former Real Mallorca star added: "We have to try to keep more clean sheets. It's very important. If we can keep clean sheets, we know we can score.
"We didn't score this time, but we kept the clean sheet."
