Jol explains Boateng’s Fulham omission

Fulham boss Martin Jol has explained the reasons for dropping Derek Boateng from his matchday squad on the weekend.

Fulham boss Martin Jol has explained the reasons for dropping Derek Boateng from his matchday squad on the weekend.

The 30-year old Ghanaian midfielder, signed from Ukraine’s Dnipro on a free in the summer, started in the opening day 1-0 win at Sunderland but has not featured since for the Cottagers with his name not even on the teamsheet for the weekend’s 2-0 loss at Chelsea.

Jol explained that Boateng’s lack of match practice and versatility forced him to make the decision on the omission.

"On the bench I have to make decisions, like can they play in different positions," Jol told the Fulham Chronicle.

"Derek wasn't even in the 18 for the last game.

"He didn't play for a year and it showed. He was good in the first hour [at Sunderland] and then he dropped a bit."
