Jol admits Fulham signing Ruiz thought he could play in Europe

Fulham new boy Bryan Ruiz is ineligible to represent his new club in the Europa League and manager Martin Jol has admitted to keeping the player in the dark regarding the matter.

As the Southwest Londoners prepare for the visit of Ruiz' former club FC Twente tomorrow night, Dutchman Jol has revealed that he knew the Costa Rican could not play when he signed him but the player didn't.

"It was a problem for him, because he thought he could play but he couldn't," said Jol.

"It was an advantage for us because if he had have known before it might have been a problem. He said just after signing, 'I thought I could play', but I said, 'No, you can't.'

"Bryan was pretty disgusted with the situation. He played a few games before and he got injured before that and hoped he would play, but that is reality and the rules."
