Liverpool could complete the £17 million signing of Portsmouth fullback Glen Johnson this week.
The Daily Mail says Chelsea had agreed a fee with Portsmouth and that Manchester City and Bayern Munich had also made moves to sign the England defender.
But the player is keen on Anfield, and Pompey executive chairman Peter Storrie said: "Providing the deal is right for Portsmouth and Glen then we will look to do something in the right way.
"It is very hard to hold people back when they have a chance to play in the Champions League.' Storrie conceded a deal could be struck imminently, adding: 'I wouldn't think it would be too long."
