Johnson targets top half finish for new club QPR

Andrew Johnson is confident his new club QPR can end next season with a top ten finish in the top flight. "The aim for QPR is to not be in the same position that they were last year," the 31-year-old told the club's official website.

"There's a great squad here with some top players, who didn't warrant being in the position that they were in on the final game of last season.

"The aim is to build on that and try and get the team in the top ten. The club has got to be looking at finishing in the top ten next season with the money that's being spent here and the players that they're going to invest in.

"With additions, the current squad and the management team that's in place here, I don't see any reason why we can't."

Competition for striking places will be fierce with the likes of Bobby Zamora in the squad, but Johnson says he welcomes the challenge from his former Fulham team-mate.

"There's a great squad here with some top strikers - including Djibril Cisse," he added. "It's going to be tough in terms of competition, but that's what you want.

"You want to be kept on your toes and you want to fight for your place. Healthy competition is good. It can only make you better and can only make the team improve.

"Bob's a great lad. He's a good player, who was a fantastic signing for QPR in January. We're good friends off the field as well, and that obviously helps. We work well together.

"We didn't play a lot together (due to injuries). But when we did, we played some good stuff. We've got a good understanding and I'm looking forward to being back with the big man."
