Johnson set to make debut in Capital One Cup as Sunderland wait on Fletcher

Adam Johnson's Sunderland debut has been confirmed for tomorrow night by manager Martin O'Neill.

The 25-year old winger joined the Black Cats from Manchester City for £12million on Friday and will step out for the first time in his new colours when the club takes on Morecambe in the second round of the Capital One League Cup at the Stadium of Light.

But O'Neill was unsure about Johnson's fellow summer signing Steven Fletcher making his Black Cats bow.

"That depends," he said.

"Adam, with playing for England, his fitness is fine and a lot more advanced than Steven Fletcher.

"In fairness, Adam wanted to get things sorted on Friday, but the timing for Saturday (postponed match with Reading) just beat us.

"I think for him, it would be a great opportunity. He will be playing."
