Johnson to retain Wolves captain's role

Roger Johnson will not lose the Wolves captaincy despite breaking club rules this week.

The former Birmingham City defender turned up to training on Monday still under the influence of alcohol from the night before and although he has been sanctioned, caretaker manager Terry Connor says he will not lose the armband.

"Roger reported for work not fit to train properly. I would be disappointed with any player in that situation. I said to him what he did was unacceptable," Connor said.

"The matter was dealt with on Tuesday, he has apologised, he knows he did wrong and has taken his punishment."

"There are no immediate plans to change anything. He carries on as captain for the foreseeable future.

"Since Monday, Roger has prepared well all week and he will be under consideration for Saturday's game (against Blackburn Rovers at the Molineux)."
