Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini's decision to spend £8million on winger Adam Johnson was vindicated after a man of the match performance in the 2-0 win over Bolton on Tuesday night.
The former Middlesbrough man was brilliant as an otherwise lacklustre City team managed to edge past the Trotters with goals to Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Mancini was delighted with the performance of Johnson after the match, saying: "That is why we bought him.
"He is a young player who wants to do well. He can play on both the left and the right and he can also play behind the main striker.
"He can continue to grow and I think he can be a very important player for this club."
