Johnson: Not fanciful to consider Man City as PL contenders

Manchester City's star youngster, Michael Johnson, believes it is realistic to think City will be Premier League champions during his time at the club. "Of course it is realistic to think Manchester City could be champions in my time at the club," he said.

"Every player at the club wants to finish as high as we can. But the truth is we want to win the league. That is the bottom line."

Johnson, who was present at the New Manchester Children's Hospital as the PFA presented a cheque for £1million, accepts it is an exciting time for City.

"It is fantastic to be linked with all these players," he said.

"It would be even better to get them."

Johnson spent the last year battling to overcome a series of muscular problems that have ground his blossoming career to a halt.

"Going from playing every week to being out of the side so suddenly has been soul-destroying," he said.

"I have had to try and stay focused and keep calm, even though it has been tough at times.

"It is such an exciting time to be at Manchester City and I have not been able to be part of it. It is very frustrating.

"But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now because I am confident we have got to the root of the problem.

"I have been working really hard and hopefully now I can remain injury-free.

"There are so many high-quality players at the club now, you simply cannot afford to be injured."
