Johnson: Liverpool has some business to do this summer

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson suggests the club needs to make changes this summer if they want to challenge for the Premier League title.

The Reds right-back is not expected to stay at Anfield beyond the summer with no new deal on the table but he understands that the Anfield club have some pressing demands ahead of them when the next transfer window opens.

"There needs to be changes," said Johnson. "It's the same every year and every team is going to try and do their business in the summer to try and make themselves stronger for the following the season.

"The club needs to do that too. We have some fantastic young players but we say the same every year - we always have some good young players coming through.

"The club has got some business to do in the summer with current players and new players and it's just about trying to get the squad as strong as possible for the start."

The 1-0 defeat against Hull City on Tuesday effectively ended Liverpool's hopes of securing a Champions League spot and now they are struggling to hold onto fifth spot in the league with Tottenham equal on points and Southampton just one in arrears.
