Johnson impressed by new Sunderland teammate Giaccherini

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson is full of praise for new teammate Emanuele Giaccherini.

The £6.5 million summer signing from Juventus has already impressed in pre-season friendlies against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, after penning a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

Johnson told the Evening Chronicle: "He's everything you'd expect from that type of player, that's what he's like. His technique's good, he can see a pass, he's clever like most Italian attackers. I think he's only going to get stronger as well when he plays a few games.

"He's not scared of the physical side of it. Against Tottenham (in Hong Kong) he put a tackle in on Kyle Walker early on when a lot of players probably would have shied away. He got going and got stuck in."
