Johnson hoping for Man City start after Juventus equaliser

Manchester City winger Adam Johnson hopes his leveller against Juventus in the Europa League on Thursday night wins him his Premier League starting spot back.

Johnson hit the target in the 37th minute to force a draw at Eastlands and is now full of hope that manager Roberto Mancini starts him against Newcastle United on the weekend.

"I've not played much football in recent weeks and so it was good to start," said Johnson. "I hope I'm pushing for a start on Sunday.

"We have been working on me running across defenders in training rather than getting the ball to my feet all the time.

"It was a great ball by Yaya Toure and that's what he's capable of. My first touch took it away from the goalkeeper and took him out of the game."

Johnson feels that City were unlucky not have won the clash with Juve who defended very well after going a goal up early.

"It was a hard game against Juventus. Italian sides defend well and they did that. They made it difficult for us. In the second half we were the better team and we should have won the game," he added.
