Sunderland winger Adam Johnson was delighted with victory over Wigan Athletic.
The winger made his home league debut for the Black Cats in the 1-0 win over Wigan having initially been considered doubtful for the game.
"It's great to get off to a winning start on my home league debut and it was an important win for the team as well," he told safc.com.
"It was quite a late decision [to play]. I did a fitness test before the game and felt good - the best I've felt in weeks.
"The manager decided to play me and obviously I wasn't that sharp, but I'm reasonably happy with how I did.
"I felt fine afterwards as well. I haven't trained too much recently and now it's about getting that sharpness back."
