Johnson backing Fulham pal Zamora for England call

Andy Johnson insists Fulham teammate Bobby Zamora deserves an England call.

Johnson has been hampered by a shoulder problem this term and while he has been kicking his heels on the sidelines, Zamora has turned himself into a club hero.

He said: "Bobby has been fantastic. He's had a lot of stick and I don't think people saw the side that he brought to the team before he was scoring his goals.

"Now people realise they were a bit harsh on him. But us boys have always had faith in his ability and he is one of the best technical players I've known.

"I can definitely see him in the England set-up. Mr Capello has always said he picks people who are on form and I think in that position there is no one in better form than him.

"There are two people competing for that place at the moment, Emile Heskey and Peter Crouch, and I think he is the third one.

"So I think there are three people fighting for a place to go to the World Cup and he has a great chance.

"If he keeps playing the way he is then there is no reason why he can't get in the team.

"I'd definitely like to be mentioned in that talk too but it's just unfortunate - part and parcel of football. Coming up to the World Cup I have been missing probably four months and it is something I just have to deal with."
