Joey O'Brien has won a new deal with Bolton Wanderers.

The midfielder is still battling long-term injury, but has been supported by the Trotters with a new contract.

"Joey has had a horrendous time with injuries and I wanted to give him one less thing to worry about while he goes through his rehab," Megson told the club's official website.

"You wouldn't wish the problems Joey has had, in terms of his physical well-being, on anybody.

"It is difficult when you are injured but when it's over a long period of time it is a process that mentally can cause as much of a problem as the physical one.

"We've given him that extra year because it's the right thing for an employer to do, especially at a football club."
