Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has taken the No1 shirt.
The England goalkeeper has worn the number since he arrived from Shrewsbury in 2006.
But with the No 1 jersey free from Shay Given's departure to Aston Villa last year, Hart has opted to take the shirt.
"I don't know why I changed it, I just fancied a change but it's only a number at the end of the day," he said, speaking to the club's official website.
But Hart has apologised to any City supporters who have already purchased the club's new kit with his old number on it.
The 25-year-old added: "I actually decided at the end of last season to make the change, so I'd just like to say sorry to anyone who already has 25 on their shirt."
