Jewell admits players playing for Derby futures

New boss Paul Jewell admits his players are playing for their futures at Derby County.

"I picked the team on Saturday not knowing too much about the players," he told the club's official website. "I'm trying to find out more about them every day. It may be a month or three weeks before I know who can do the job and who can't.

"I'm not ruling anybody in at the moment and I'm not ruling anybody out. I've said to the players that there are places up for grabs - our league position means nobody's position in the team is safe.

"I want them to show me what they can do on the training pitch. And if they're out of the team show me what they can do to get in it.

"With one or two injuries we could be a little bit short on numbers. No one is guaranteed their place and no one is out of the picture."
