Jese proves Real Madrid matchwinner in Copa

Real Madrid have reached the Copa del Rey semis after victory last night over Espanyol.

Real Madrid ground out a 1-0 victory over Espanyol to seal their safe progression to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey with a 2-0 aggregate triumph.

Jese Rodriguez scored the only goal of the return leg in the seventh minute as the Bernabeu faithful were subjected to a lacklustre performance by the home side, who made changes but still had the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos in the starting XI.

Jese said afterwards: "The defence are doing really well. The team is well-balanced and doing well with and without the ball. We have a lot of quality up front and the plays create themselves. I'm happy about the team's win and the job done by everyone. Real Madrid have to go for every title. We have to be strong in our stadium and drop as few points as possible."
