Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas says chairman Daniel Levy needs to introduce a serious wage structure.
Jenas fears their top players will be off unless the north London club stump up the cash.
“If they're going to make this step mentally in terms of chasing a championship and challenging over the next two, three, four seasons for the title at some point the wages situation at Spurs has to change as well," he told BBC Radio Five Live.
“If you want top players, you've got to pay them.
“Otherwise clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United will come in and say 'here you are mate, here's £200,000-a-week'.
“And whatever people think - that's football.
“They'll lose their best players if they don't sort that out - or at least get it closer to what it needs to be."
