Jelavic gave up fortune to make Everton move

Everton signing Nikica Jelavic gave up a fortune to get his move from Rangers.

The People says the Croatian hitman joined in a £5.5million deal on deadline day after the Glasgow giants refused to give him a pay-off that jeopardised the move.

Jelavic, 26, was due a healthy slice of the profit from any transfer money Rangers got for him, as part of the agreement when he signed from Rapid Vienna.

The figures were down in writing in his contract and Jelavic was entitled to the pay-out when the sale to Everton was agreed at the £5.5m fee.

However, the hard-up Gers demanded Jelavic give up the rights to his share and the striker said 'yes' because he was so keen to move to the Toffees.

Sources close to Jelavic said: "Nikica was shocked when Rangers asked him to give up his part of the transfer proceeds.

"But he was so desperate to go that he gave up the cash - this move is not about money for him."

Maybe they should have shown a little more of that fire back in the Champions League Group play and they wouldn't have been dumped out of the competition.
