Jedinak hoping Popovic stays with Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak has his fingers crossed that Tony Popovic remains with the South London club.

Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak has his fingers crossed that Tony Popovic remains with the South London club.

Former Eagles and Socceroos centre-back Popovic is currently a key part of Dougie Freedman’s coaching staff at Selhurst Park but is being linked with the vacant Sydney FC job as well as incoming A-League franchise West Sydney.

Australian international Jedinak, who enjoyed a consistent season with Palace, feels Popovic would do a great job back home in Australia but is hoping the 38-year old remains with the Championship club who finished 17th on England’s tier two table.

"It's going to be up to him and what he wants to do as a coach - but I hope he stays with me!" Jedinak told au.fourfourtwo.com. "He's a great coach in my opinion.

"He's got a lot of say at Crystal Palace. He does a lot of hands on work which is great and he's been influential on our season this year along with the other management.

"He's one guy who doesn't leave any stone unturned, whose attention to details is really great and he's great to work with. I just really really enjoy working with him.

"Even though he is relatively young in coaching terms, he has a lot of knowledge and works very hard."
