Japan star Keisuke Honda believes he should not have been the recipient of the Most Valuable Player at the 2011 Asian Cup.

The CSKA Moscow attacker was voted as the best player throughout the tournament, which was won by the Blue Samurai who defeated Australia 1-0 in extra-time on the weekend.

Following the match, Honda was announced as the tournament's MVP but he feels that teammate Yasuhito Endo deserved the award.

"To have someone on the team who's won it before like (Endo) makes a huge difference," Honda said.

"If we didn't have anyone with championship experience, I bet we would have lost by a hair somewhere along the way. A lot of players stepped up for us at this tournament, but I don't think anyone could have replaced Endo.

"He's my MVP."
