Japan FA unsure of coach Okada's semi-final prediction

The Japanese Football Association do not share coach Takeshi Okada's view of what the nation can achieve at next year's World Cup.

Okada believes that the Blue Samurai are capable of reaching the semi-finals in the tournament to be held in South Africa despite the fact they have drawn Holland, Denmark and Cameroon in their group.

"All of our opponents are a bit stronger than us but are in a range we can deal with." said Okada after the draw.

"We are aiming for a place in the semifinals and don't intend to change that. It's never easy whoever you play. This might sound strange but I don't think it's a bad group to be in. We are not up against teams that we have absolutely no chance of beating."

But Japan FA vice-president Junji Ogura was not as confident as Okada and knows it will be a tough task to beat FIFA's ranking system when the competition commences in June 2010.

"I trust coach Okada," Ogura was quoted as saying in Nikkan Sports earlier this week.

"I want us to (get to the semi-finals) and think it's a possibility.

"But FIFA place great significance on their world rankings when they decide the tournament seeds for example."
