David James has warned new Portsmouth signing Sylvain Distin that he won't be guaranteed a starting place.
He said: "It's an interesting one with Sylvain because he's going to find it hard to get into the team. All respect to him as a footballer. I like him as a player and had a good experience with him at City. But defensively we were very, very strong last year and Linvoy was a massive part of that.
"He's really impressed me, though. He had a tremendous season. Linvoy was very consistent and hugely proud every time he kept a clean sheet. It's not just me who goes mad when goals go in.
"When I was going for that clean-sheet record, I remember every game turning round to Linvoy and saying 'Good, another clean sheet'. It became our thing. We achieved that together.
"He's not going to just give up his place now another central defender is here. Sylvain has got to work hard to get past him and it's going to be very, very tough.
"Linvoy had a good campaign last year and I'm certain he will have another this season."
