Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton was delighted with the performance of James Tavernier in their friendly defeat to Norwich City.
With Hughton desperate to avoid injuries to any more of his senior centre-backs the Bradford-born right-back was pressed into duty for the full game in his part-time position.
"I thought James did very well, especially considering he's a player who plays most of his football at right-back," he told the Sunday Sun.
"Without Steven Taylor and James Perch, who picked up a slight knock on Thursday, we were a bit light at the back so I had to ask him to play the 90 minutes."
