David James says the environment at Portsmouth built by manager Harry Redknapp has aided his longevity.
"I've changed and my training now is tailored to my needs. My weekly routine is probably more strenuous than it's ever been. Obviously we don't expect to win every game at Portsmouth so I'm not going to get worried about losing matches.
"I spent years unhappy about football because I was striving for perfection - an impossible dream. It wasn't the right way to go.
"In some ways my time at Liverpool was unsuccessful but I learned a lot. Now I'm more dedicated than I was at Anfield. I focus in the right areas and I'm a different person."
Now 37, James hopes to repeat the achievement of the great Italian keeper Dino Zoff, who played for his country into his forties.
"That's the target," he said.
