Jagielka: If I was with Everton fans I'd boo too

Everton captain Phil Jagielka says they deserved their boos after defeat in the Europa League to Atalanta.

Everton head to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon on the back of successive Premier League defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Tottenham, who romped to a 3-0 win at Goodison Park last weekend.

To make matters worse, a Thursday night trip to Italy ended in another 3-0 thumping by Atalanta in a miserable Europa League group stage opener.

"It's been a horrific scheduling of the start of the season for us," said the 35-year-old.

"We've had tough Premier League games already against Chelsea and Tottenham and next we face United so it would have been nice to have had a home Europa League game after a dismal performance against Spurs."

On the jeers after defeat to Atalanta, Jagielka added: "I think I'd have done the same.

"You aren't doing it because you don't like the players out there, it's just frustrating.

"It wasn't the easiest place to get to. It's expensive and something we've all been looking forward to for a while so I can more than understand the frustration."
