Everton defender Phil Jagielka says they paid Manchester United too much respect on Saturday.
"We're a bit disappointed with our first half performance," revealed Jagielka to evertonfc.com. "It was quite similar to the home game (against Man United).
"We maybe gave them too much respect.
"We weren't playing particularly well. We created a couple of half chances but we are a little bit disappointed because we put in a below par performance compared to our recent games.
"In the second-half we had to go for it at 1-0 down and I thought it was more like the old Everton.
"1-0 isn't too bad and we're looking forward to Wednesday night now."
Everton have played Chelsea, Liverpool twice, Arsenal and Manchester United in the past month, and that, according to Jags, has taken its toll.
He added: "We haven't got a massive squad so we haven't been able to move it round, but I think if you play these teams whenever it's going to be hard.
"But to play them so close together has been a test to our character and fitness. At least once we've got this out of the way we can forget about it and look forward to the next games."
