Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has promoted Kenny Jackett to assistant manager following the departure of Hans Backe last week.
"As the situation is today, it could stay like this for a while, Hans is temporarily out," Eriksson told City's website. "He's back in Sweden because of an illness in the family, which I'm sorry about, but that is a fact."
With Jackett's promotion, academy coach Ian Miller is now in charge of the reserves.
Eriksson added: "At the moment Kenny Jackett from the reserves is coming up with us and Ian Miller will take the reserves. That will be the solution for the moment.
"It's a temporary thing and we all hope - and I think strongly - that Hans is back with us again soon."
