It's hard to say if Man Utd can challenge for title next season - Carrick

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has stopped short of issuing a title challenge to his club's Premier League rivals.

United improved on their 2013/14 finish of seventh to sit fourth at the close of the recently-completed season but Carrick believes it's hard to ascertain if the Red Devils will be involved in the title race next term.

"I think it's hard to say," said the England international when asked if Man Utd can challenge for the title next season.

The 33-year-old midfielder though did say that Louis van Gaal's side will come back strong next season.

He added: "We believe we'll come back after the summer strong and we'll look to attack and try to win whatever competition we're in.

"It's not going to change; it's what we've done for years now and we'll still go into next season looking to be successful."
