Former Liverpool player Phil Thompson believes that Italy will prove to be England's toughest opponent since their disastrous World Cup campaign.
England boasts a 100% record in their Euro2016 qualifying group after five matches but will be tested when they play the Azzurri in Turin in Tuesday night's friendly.
Thompson told Sportinglife.com: "It's certainly a bigger test than anything England have faced since the World Cup but both sides will rotate heavily.
"With it being a friendly and the second game after competitive fixtures then both managers will have promised club managers that they won't use players fully.
"In that sense it won't be a fully blown international but any game against Italy is always a tough one."
