Italy's deputy Prime Minister and AC Milan fan Matteo Salvini has blasted Gonzalo Higuain after his red card in defeat to Juventus.

Higuain was sent off against Juve on Sunday for lashing out at the referee.

"Football is the country's mirror," Salvini told reporters.

“I was at San Siro on Sunday and I was ashamed by the conduct of the Milan striker.

“Despite it going against my interests as a fan, I hope he's given a long ban."
