Italy name Luigi Di Biagio as interim coach

Italy have named Luigi Di Biagio as interim coach.

The temporary promotion comes as no surprise, with FIGC vice-commissioner Alessandro Costacurta revealing Di Biagio would be caretaker last week.

A statement on the federation's official website reads: “Following a meeting held today at the FIGC's headquarters in Rome, in the presence of Extraordinary Commissioner Roberto Fabbricini and his deputy Alessandro Costacurta, it has been decided that Luigi Di Biagio will be CT for the two international games in March, scheduled for the 23rd against Argentina in Manchester and the 27th with England in London."

The 46-year-old played almost 500 games for Lazio, Monza, Foggia, Roma, Inter, Brescia and Ascoli, while representing Italy 31 times, including at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, plus Euro 2000.
