Italy Federation chief Abete: Azzurri fans are spoilt

Italy Federation chief Giancarlo Abete is unhappy with the lukewarm response from the media and public over the Azzurri's World Cup qualification.

Abete said: "I don't think there is a lack of euphoria around the Nazionale. The truth is that the expectations around this side are always incredibly high. I think we are a little spoilt."

Abete pointed out that while Italy have their place in South Africa a round early, other nations are heading into the play-offs.

"It is clear to all that there are big teams struggling out there, such as France and Argentina. Others like Sweden, Turkey and Romania are already out of the running.

"There are many emerging countries making a difference and the results need to be evaluated in that climate."
