Udinese striker Antonio di Natale tore knee ligaments in action for Italy on Saturday.
"The fact it is only a partial lesion means it is less serious than we had originally feared," explained Italy chief medic Enrico Castellacci.
"Now we will see various specialists and evaluate if he should undergo surgery or adopt a non-invasive form of treatment.
"If he went under the knife, then Antonio would be out for around five to six months. In the other scenario, the lad could even recover to play the final games of the season."
