Italy coach Lippi not seeking superstar performer

Italy coach Marcello Lippi says they can win the World Cup without relying on one player.

Lippi is pleased with the balance of the squad he has, despite calls for Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano or Roma's Francesco Totti to be included.

He said: "In order to create a winning team it's necessary to form a group composed of players who have the humility to put their own qualities at the service of others and who ultimately do not feel like prima donnas.

"The teams composed of these kind of players, who are born with talent and believe that everyone else should be put at their service, can play well for a period of time, but in the end they don't have continuity.

"Ibrahimovic's Sweden for example did not qualify for the World Cup, while Ronaldo's Portugal and Messi's Argentina only did so by the skin of their teeth. And we are talking about three of the world's best players, illustrating that the collective is the most important thing."
