Tottenham were serious about signing Internacional striker Leandro Damiao.
The Daily Star Sunday says Spurs were hoping to agree a £10million deal for the Internacional frontman, 22.
But the asking price almost doubled when the Milan clubs AC and Inter, plus Juventus, Roma and Udinese joined in the race for his signature.
Eventually, the only new striker Spurs boss Harry Redknapp secured was Emmanuel Adebayor on loan from Manchester City.
